HAPPEN 2021 Summer Program 
This component is designed to enhance the college freshman student's college-level basic knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in health career goals and to familiarize the student with the medicine, dentistry and pharmacy.  Click the Read More button to apply today.


GUIDE 2021 Summer Program 

This component is designed to enhance the competitiveness of students as they prepare to apply to schools or programs of medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy. The GUIDE program includes a review for either the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), the Dental Admission Test (DAT), the Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT) and the GRE; preparation for the application and interviewing process including mock interviews; shadowing in health care clinics and/or research laboratories.  


​​General Program Eligibility:

  1. Students who wish to participate in HCOP can apply for entry into any of the components. HCOP alumni will be given preference for spaces in other components.

  2. All applicants must:

  • be a U.S. citizen

  • be a resident of West Virginia

  • have an interest in a career as a physician, dentist, pharmacist or allied health 

  • Other deciding factors will be based on school performance, standardized test scores and motivation toward improving current educational status. Other eligibility requirements include having a disadvantaged status (financial, educational/academic, and first-generation college bound)


​​Eligible applicants will be selected on the basis of academic achievement and promise as shown by grades, ACT, SAT, MCAT, DAT, or PCAT and potential to be successful in a health careers profession.

Students enrolled in HAPPEN and GUIDE will receive a stipend to cover all expected costs of participating in this summer enrichment program; such as, housing, supplies and food.
